🪁 Between Kites and Hugs

Chapter I: The Invisible Thread

The sun caressed the midday sky at the Portal of the Sun, and Grandpa Julián, with wise hands and a serene gaze, spread scraps of paper, sticks, and string across the table. His grandson, Tomás, watched with wide eyes, full of questions and wonder.

— Today we’re going to build something that flies — said the grandfather — but not just in the sky… also in the heart.

As they cut, tied, and painted, Julián shared stories from his own childhood: how, with just a piece of rice paper and a fallen branch, he had learned to make kites with his neighborhood friends. Not everyone could have one, but they always found a way to share the flight.

— A kite isn’t only yours when you make it — he said —. It belongs to everyone who watches it rise and dreams with it.

Tomás listened in silence, feeling that each word wove an invisible thread between him and his grandfather.

Chapter II: The Shared Sky

That afternoon, they went out to the field behind the house. The wind danced among the trees, as if it knew something special was about to happen. The kite, painted with suns and stars, rose gracefully, and Tomás ran with it, laughing, while Julián followed with slow steps and an emotional gaze.

Other children from the village came closer, curious. Tomás, remembering his grandfather’s words, offered the string, one by one. Each child had their turn, and the sky filled with laughter, running, and hugs.

— Sharing is like flying together — said Julián, as the sun began to set —. It doesn’t matter who holds the string, what matters is that we’re all looking up.

That night, Tomás put the kite away along with a note written by his grandfather: “The sky is bigger when it’s shared.”
